Cartoonist needs their permission to publish elsewhere. The Editor kindly asks not to be sent work that has already been submitted & sold to other publications. Published every two weeks. Private Eye recommends non-topical cartoons in a batch by the Thursday before publication although topicals can go in later. Private Eye tells the cartoonist when a cartoon is accepted. Private Eye doesn’t reply whether accepted or not: visit www.private-eye.co.uk/cartoonists after 13:00 on the Tuesday of publication to see a list of accepted work. They usually publish the list at 12:00. Send as jpegs, scanned the right way round, named with your initials and the cartoon subject, and as single files, not in a pdf or Word doc." If you’re submitting something to us please don’t send that piece of work to anyone else until you know that we don’t want to use it (that includes putting it up on any social media accounts). If you could keep it to no more than four or five ideas a fortnight, that would be great (preferably in one email). The ideal format is a jpg and if you could keep the file size to no more than 1-1.5mb per cartoon that would be great – ideally as proper attachments rather than in the body of the email. The best time to submit non-topicals is the Monday/Tuesday after the latest issue goes on sale. For topicals we will be able to take a look at them all the way up to Friday afternoon but the earlier you can get them to us the better chance they have. Due to the volume of submissions we receive each issue, unfortunately we can’t get back to individuals to say that we don’t want to use their work. Instead we post up an list of the cartoons that we have used in the new issue on our website - usually by 1pm the Tuesday after we have gone to press - at www.private-eye.co.uk/cartoonists.
